Michaeltore Smith, Cam High’s ASB adviser and previously the girls’ varsity basketball coach, will be the new head coach of the boys’ varsity basketball team in the 2014-2015 season.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to take the reigns over the boys’ team, and I am ready for the challenge,” said Smith.

Previous head coach Allan Sadowsky announced on April 24 that he would be stepping down from coaching the boys’ varsity basketball due to health concerns.

Smith will now take over the program after a highly successful season with the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team.

“I worked together with [Coach Sadowsky] for many years and I thought he was an excellent coach and inspiration,” said Smith. “I spent a lot of  time with the boys [basketball team] and I feel that the transition chemistry will not be a factor.”

Smith lead the girls team to the CIF State Championship Tournament this year with a record of 28-5 overall and 10-0 in Pacific View League play.

Smith has been coaching for 13 years as the girls’ basketball coach for a number of different teams throughout Southern California. A coach at Cam High for six years, Smith boasts a record of 111-64 including three straight years being Pacific View League Champions.

“I am really going to miss the girls and it has been very hard for me to leave them,” said Smith. “I am looking forward to the new adventure and hope to have many successful years being the coach of the boys.”

A new head Varsity Girls Basketball coach has not been announced.
