Freshmen Kylee Yturralde and Daniel Gomez led the way as Cam High’s Cross Country team took two top three finishes.

Cam High’s Cross Country participated in the Dos Pueblos Invitational on October 4. The event was a 5 km  (3.1 miles) course at Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara, where many of the top tier cross country teams in California, such as power houses Saugus High, Long Beach, and Poly High, were in attendance. In total, eleven teams were present.

Kylee Yturralde led the lady Scorpions finishing first place with a time of 19:05. “I felt great,” said Yturralde about her performance. Yturralde also broke the Dos Pueblos Invitational Freshman record with her time. “I’m really proud of what Kylee has done,” said Mrs. Mary Perez about Ytturalde.

Danika Cline met with success as well, coming in fourth place in the Senior race with a time of 19:32.

The Scorpion girls team were able to compete in all levels, despite having heavy competition, finishing all races in the top five. “The team did very well and having this much competition was a really good thing for us to grow and to have more success in the future,” Perez expressed.

While the girls had much success, the boys fell short as all levels were kept out of the top three teams. Daniel Gomez led the boys team with a second place finish with a time of 17:40. The freshmen, as a team, finished fifth place respectively.

In the Senior race, Ricky Ochsner finished in eighth place with a time of 16:42. Competition was hot as the top five racers were only separated by seven seconds with the top racer, Alex Pearson from Saugus High, finishing at 16:06.

“The team did well and I saw many improvements,” said Coach Pinuelas about his team’s performance, “Most importantly, I want to see improvements week by week and get better to finish faster than before.”

Cam High’s Cross Country team’s next meet is the Pacific View League Meet at the Pleasent Valley Soccer Park.
