Drama Doubles Down
Cam High’s drama department is planning to start the new school year off with a double production of Dracula’s Daughters and The Monkey’s Paw.
Seniors Anna Stevenson and Josephine Smithson are directing Dracula’s Daughters, about Dracula’s daughters and their pursuits of love, while Mr. Richard Winterstein, drama adviser, is in charge of The Monkey’s Paw.
Pauline Moraveck, senior, plays Mildred in Dracula’s Daughters.“We had some technical difficulties the last few days, but it’s starting to really get to where it needs to be at this point,” said Moraveck. “I think we’re going to be ready to run tact with everything within the next two weeks.”
Nathan Oswald, senior, plays John White in The Monkey’s Paw. “The play is about him receiving a monkey’s paw from his friend, and whoever has the paw, has the ability to [make] three wishes,” said Oswald, “It’s been challenging, but it’s also very fun.”
Although drama has been planning The Monkey’s Paw for about a month, the play still requires a few adjustments and needs some more rehearsal, according to a few cast members. “It just needs to be polished a lot,” said Mackenzie Giles, senior who plays Mrs. White in The Monkey’s Paw.
Many of the actors said that people will enjoy both plays and recommend that everyone should see them. “I think that these two plays kind of give the best of both worlds, because Monkey’s Paw is a horror and it’s spooky and very Halloween, and then Dracula’s Daughters is both funny, but also fitting for Halloween,” said Moraveck.
Drama is performing the plays from Thursday, Oct. 23 to Saturday, Oct. 25 and from Thursday, Oct. 30 to Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 P.M. Doors will open at 7P.M; The Monkey’s Paw will be performed first, and Dracula’s Daughters will be presented after intermission. The plays are scheduled to end at 10:00 P.M.
