Students were packed in the bleachers during the Welcome Back rally, with the juniors and seniors dominating the middle seating.

Cam High hosted their annual welcome back rally last Friday, featuring DJ Malski and performances by the marching band and the cheer squad. The ASB picked a theme of “neon” and the bleachers were filled with brightly colored greens, yellows, blues and reds as Cam High students skipped fourth period to support Cam High athletic teams.

The order of events followed Cam High’s traditional attempts to rouse the crowd into visibly showing school spirit, beginning with the class competition roll call and class challenges.

As almost every year in the past, the seniors won the roll call by a significant margin, yelling louder than any other class, while the freshman lacked audible enthusiasm.

“[The rally] was pretty great and really energetic and I saw a lot of people wearing neon and it was really great seeing all the support,” said Erik Riis-Vestergaard, sophomore who attended the rally. According to Riis-Vestergaard, the spirit of the students is what really drives Cam High and really makes it important for the overall vibe of the school.

“I think it is a really cool idea, but some of the enthusiasm was a little low, especially toward the top [of the bleachers], but the few who had spirit really made up for it,” said Allison Lebus, junior.

Several students felt that it unified the school grades together, welcomed newcomers to the school, and revamped the returning students. “I like how Cam High sets up rallies, because it gets everyone pumped up,” said Max Ortgies, sophomore.

According to Avinash Nandakumar, a sophomore, the atmosphere of the rally was “enthusiastic, energetic, and impressive.”

The Welcome Back Rally featured a hula-hoop challenge and a Beach Ball blow-up challenge among others, which allowed members of each class to compete for bragging rights in a number of off-beat and humorous games.

“[The rally] was pretty great and really energetic and I saw a lot of people wearing neon and it was really great seeing all the support,” said Erik Riis-Vestergaard, sophomore representative of the rally. According to Riis-Vestergaard, the spirit of the students is what really drives Cam High and really makes it important  for the overall vibe of the school.
